You may use Crisis Chat without personally identifying yourself. Chat Specialists do not provide treatment or care; they will only provide information on services, guidance and assistance, and helpful online resources via Crisis Chat.
If the Chat Specialist concludes that you are at imminent danger of harming yourself or others, the Chat Specialist will request your contact information (i.e. telephone number and/or address) so they can attempt to provide you with additional assistance, including sending local emergency services to you. As a Visitor, you may refuse to provide this information. If however, the Chat Specialist still believes you are at imminent danger of harming yourself or others, they may use other information available to them (e.g. your IP address) to help local emergency personnel locate you to provide you with further assistance.
Crisis Chat offers emotional support and crisis intervention to people in emotional distress. Crisis Chat is available during hours that vary according to the local crisis center availability.
If you are in suicidal crisis or emotional distress and Crisis Chat’s chat service is not available or is “offline,” please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK(8255).
If you or someone you know is currently in the act of harming him/herself or someone else, or if they need immediate medical attention, please dial 9-1-1.
Crisis Chat also offers mental health information and screening tools, available 24/7 via web connection.
